The Indiana Center for Intercultural Communication (ICIC) announces the 7th Intercultural Rhetoric and Discourse Conference to be held at Indiana University Purdue University (IUPUI) in Indianapolis, IN, August 9-11, 2012.

Call for Papers:

Papers to be presented during concurrent sessions are invited on topics including (but not limited to):

• theoretical and empirical investigations
• writing in school and college
• language and culture specific studies
• writing in business & professional settings
• changing methodologies for research
• orality and literacy connections
• practical applications
• critical approaches to contrastive rhetoric
• teaching and classroom practices

Deadline for Submission: November 1, 2011

Abstracts should be no more than 250 words, typed on a single page. Abstracts should describe papers which will be presented in a 20 minute session, followed by a 10 minute discussion. The University of Tennessee English Department expects to offer a lecturer appointment for a candidate with expertise in ESL, Technical Writing, or Rhetoric, beginning August 2011. This non-tenure-track position is renewable yearly, contingent upon evidence of excellent teaching and the department's staffing needs. Requirements include evidence of effective teaching and Ph.D. in English or related discipline. Salary is $32,000, plus health and retirement benefits and a generous travel allowance. Teaching load is 12 hours per semester, at least half in first-year composition and the remainder in sophomore and, possibly, upper-division courses, subject always to curricular needs and teacher qualifications. ESL Writing Positions

The Department of English at Purdue University invites applications for Continuing Lecturers for the ESL Writing Program (3 positions available).

We welcome applications from candidates with a demonstrated interest in teaching ESL writing at the college level. The primary duties for each of the three Continuing Lecturer positions we seek to fill include teaching three sections of ENGL 10600-I (Introductory Composition for International Students) per semester. Other duties may involve curriculum and materials development, administrative work, and mentoring new instructors in the program. Successful applicants will have an MA in Teaching English as a Second Language (MATESL) or in a related field, and will have previous teaching experience, preferably in ESL courses. Some administrative experience is desirable but not required. Preference will be given to candidates who have experience working with international students or in international settings.

Continuing Lecturers at Purdue are part of the permanent teaching staff, receive full-time salary during the academic year, and are eligible for medical and retirement benefits.
