Description: The College Writing Programs at the University of California Berkeley invites applications for two full-time lecturer positions. The successful applicants will have the credentials and college-level experience necessary to teach in a writing program that offers courses in FYC and reading, second-language writing, digital rhetoric, intermediate and advanced writing, and specialized writing.
Employment begins in August 2013
Qualifications: MA (PhD preferred) in one of the following fields:
composition studies, rhetoric and composition, digital rhetoric, second-language writing/ESL/applied linguistics, or other closely related fields. A minimum of three years experience teaching college composition courses as the sole instructor. Experience working with a student population that is diverse in terms of writing proficiency, ethnicity and socioeconomic situation, and English language fluency.
Terms: Typically, lecturers are appointed to a series of one-year contracts through their fifth year. Annual reappointment depends upon a successful review within the College Writing Programs based upon quality of teaching and programmatic need. In their sixth year, lecturers are invited to submit materials for a comprehensive review process. A positive outcome of that review results in appointment to a continuing lectureship. Continuing lecturers are reviewed for merit increases every three years, and it is expected that they will serve the Programs on a long-term basis, pending enrollment needs. These are not tenure-track positions, nor do they confer membership in the Academic Senate.
Appointments are 100%.
Salary and Benefits: Commensurate with experience, with a minimum of
