Job Opening: Indiana University of Pennsylvania

Indiana University of Pennsylvania
Assistant Professor of English Education
Assistant or Associate Professor of Applied Linguistics

We will have three openings for next year, one in English education at the assistant professor rank.  The candidate will be teaching in a thriving undergraduate and graduate English education program that employs nearly 100% of graduates.

Two in applied linguistics at either assistant or associate rank.

Both positions are to be filled for fall 2013.  The applied linguists will be working in a doctoral program in Composition and TESOL.  I think the program name will be changing to Composition and Applied Linguistics shortly to reflect a fundamental change in our orientation back toward applied linguistics while maintaining the emphasis on composition and TESOL scholar researchers for doctoral students..  Set up originally as Rhetoric and Linguistics in 1971, the program is the oldest composition program.

We are looking to find good teachers who have a research agenda for the future, either assistant or associate.

The Pennsylvania Department of Education has recently approved an endorsement for K-12 teachers in TESOL.  The new candidates in both programs will be involved in the final stages of approval for that program.  We would especially like to entertain applications for applied linguists with a teacher education background who have had experience in the schools.  However that experience is not necessary to be a successful applicant.

Three candidates for each of the  positions will be invited to campus for interviews to include a teaching demonstration and presentation on their research.

All applicants should be willing to teach first year writing as part of their teaching, since departmental faculty all teach in the English Liberal Studies Progam.

If you have any questions, please contact  Dr. Tina Perdue, Search Chair at Perdue@iup.edu.  All application materials should be submitted electronically through the website listed in the advertisements.
